Studded tires are illegal in Illinois.

And they’re noisy AF on asphalt.

So their only function now is to enhance road noise and damage.

I’ve come to the conclusion that 83 is quite the slice of life during rush hour. Way more than 294 ever was.

Saw a full sized truck with studs today, didn’t phase me a bit. Illegal here too but the cops don’t enforce the rule.

I have done that   drive numerous times. It’s a toxic mix of ra ce car drivers, idiot tourists , and people afraid of driving  over 40.

This one had Illinois plates and the studs were worn down, so clearly it’s not enforced here, either.

I’ve never seen a car around here with studs. People being dumb doesn’t surprise me, but it’s just weird to see that here in the summer.

I presume the guy lived somewhere that studs were common, then moved here and lost/ forgot the summer tires, then just said “ eff it".

The crap I see from WI/IL/MN drivers, nothing really surprises me anymore.

Honestly if the studded tires weren’t completely bald, I probably wouldn’t have given it a second glance.

It was the noise that got my attention - I had the windows open, and the car sounded like it was driving on a gravel road.

But yeah, I like not having inspections here, but the downside is that there’s some real WTF on the roads.

I live around Chicago, so we would have that plus a bunch of scam artists looking to get some extra cash for giving inspection certs to death traps.

I don’t think inspections work here. Glad we don’t have   them.

BTW apparently today is Impala day and no one told me. I drove Lake St from 83 to 53 and saw:

64 4 door hardtop -beige, heavy patina but obviously mechanically solid and badged as a 283 (auto)

60 2 door hardtop - white and looked pristine with a few tasteful mods

~80 sedan, orange and fairly modified - sounded like LS power
